The team of Chris Etue, from Woodland Hills, and Tim Hogarth, from

Northridge, posted a two-round best ball score of 133 to win the gross

score flight of the inaugural Simi Valley City 4Ball Championship. In this

competition, held Saturday, November 8 at Simi Hills Golf Course and on

Sunday, November 9 on the Sky course at Lost Canyons, players complete

each hole and the better of the two scores becomes the team score for the

hole. The Etue/Hogarth team had a best ball score of 4 under par 67 at

Simi Hills and 6 under par 66 at Lost Canyons. Second place in the gross

flight was posted by the team of Tommy Di Filippo of Mar Vista and Steve

Dougherty of Burbank with a two-round total of 138. The score of 139 was

good for third place and was posted by the team of Dave Murphy (Port

Hueneme) and Terry Robuck (Chatsworth).

In the net flight, Jim Yeh of Sylmar and Jeffrey Benmoin of Rancho

Cucamonga completed the two rounds with net scores of 63 and 64, for a

total score of 127, good for first place. Second place honors went to Tom

Lee of North Hollywood and Tom Horner of Little Rock with a score of 129,

and third place was posted by Rich Silagy and Larry Smart, both of Simi

Valley, with a 130 score.

In this first year of the tournament, participation was excellent, with 47

teams in the field. According to Brian Reed, head golf professional and

manager of Simi Hills, the 4ball format, which is not commonly played in

championship tournaments, provides more opportunity for golfers to

recover from a bad shot or a bad hole, since only one of the two players’

scores counts for the team score. “The 4ball format was exciting for

participants and was very well received. We are looking forward to a great

second year in 2009 with even more participation.”
