A Wider Arc Will Produce a Powerful Swing
- Joe Buttitta

Golfers who crave more power (and who doesn't?) must find a way to swing the clubhead faster.

I have found the easiest way to do this is to widen the arc of your backswing.

A wider arc puts the club head further from the ball and moves it faster through the hitting zone.

To accomplish a wider arc, visualize a baseball catcher squatting behind you as if you were a batter.

Picture the catcher's glove waiting for the pitcher. Then swing the club head straight back through the catcher's glove.

Don't take a path that is "inside" the glove, but right smack into the pocket. This will effectively and easily widen the arc of your backswing which will automatically produce more power.

Once you widen your arc you should soon see a dramatic improvement in your accuracy as well.

The wide arc helps produce a swing path that strikes the ball squarely in the back. Remember though, only the backswing arc is wider. The downswing arc is naturally narrower, and swings from the inside to produce longer and straighter shots.
